CAPTAIN COOK MUSEUM
The Museum is in a 17th century house on Whitby’s harbour where James Cook lodged as an apprentice. Wheelchair users now have access to the ground floor and to the first floor via a specially installed lift. A DVD of the upper floor and the attic is available to watch at the museum, which shows the Artists and Scientists rooms on the second floor. Mary Ann Hepworth Lifeboat

The Mary Ann Hepworth is Whitby's old lifeboat from 1938 to 1974. During its service it was launched 372 times and saved 201 lives

It now takes out pleasure trips to sea half-hourly or longer if pre-booked.

High on a cliff above the Yorkshire seaside town of Whitby are the gaunt, imposing remains of Whitby Abbey. Founded in 657 by St Hilda, Whitby Abbey has over the years been a bustling settlement, a kings’ burial place, the setting for a historic meeting between Celtic and Roman clerics, the home of saints including the poet Caedmon, and inspiration for Bram Stoker, author of Dracula. Discover how over 2,000 years of history make the Abbey one of England’s most important archaeological sites.

WHITBY WIZARD SCIENCE MUSEUM

This is the first science centre in North Yorkshire and is modelled on the world famous Explortoruim in San Francisco.
The museum is situated on the West Cliff of Whitby

Disabled access:
Whitby Wizard is keen to offer help and assistance to visitors with special needs. Please discuss your particular needs with us when you book. NB: any wheelchair user MUST have a previously appointed adult to assist.

The exhibition contains some very strong magnets. People with electronic prostheses should exercise caution and maybe not approach those exhibits. Keep wristwatches out of the magnetic fields.
